And the people who make this comment, normally, are not from Kerala as you can imagine. We are going to understand why this becomes a big deal, or whether this is actually a big deal. I have known quite a lot of Malayalis who have gone, at least for a short stint, somewhere out of Kerala. And a number of them have the problem of getting an inferiority complex about the fact that they are from Kerala. I am not sure of the reason for this though. They put on a fake accent and try to mask the so-called MTI mother tongue influence any normal Malayali is prone to have. For any Malayalam-loving Malayali, like me, this coinage is totally irritating and unnecessary.

Not generalizing, personally I feel many North Indians have the view that South Indian english accent is bad. From what I know, the people here ridicule the Indian accent not just the South Indian accent. Anyway that is not the point here, I feel that the guy who ridiculed you is egoistic. Language is a medium of communication, if others can understand what you say, who cares about your accent. All my greek professor still has a greek accent. Who cares.
Here are some special accents only by Mallus.. You can easily find out a Mallu from his accents…. A: In the ko-liage.
Posted in Education , Google's Knol , and Lighter vein. There is a common belief that Keralites Malayalees , English accent is very poor and others laugh at them when they speak English. The people who speak the language Malayalam and are natives of Kerala are called Malayalis or Keralites. This word many generally use it as derogatory, but most of the educated Malayalees take this lightly. And among them, there are a good number of well educated and renowned intellectuals as professors, scientists, bureaucrats, and business people. But people still make fun of us on our English accent. I am sure my Malayalee brethren the world over will not get annoyed. Instead, I am sure they take this as a lighter vein. In literacy, we are on the top of the list. I congratulate and appreciate my fellow Kerala brethren scattered all over the world.
